Darren & Lucy

We see a lot of couples in love in our work, but very few quite as in love as these two. Darren and Lucy are a very special couple, and it was a real privilege to photograph their wedding. It was just so nice to see two people so happy! Darren had a couple of requests for us to challenge our new art piece direction, and as always, we were happy to oblige. First off, Darren wanted a classic 30's style smoking shot, despite the modern smoking ban! So I drew the smoke on the photo for him. And also, Darren and Lucy are really into their 50's swing music, and they asked if it was possible to create a shot of them dancing on the record of a Wurlitzer juke box. But of course...

Don't call the police! The smoke is drawn on!

Nick & Emily - Burgh Island

Our first visit to Burgh Island, and I must say I was impressed. The hotel is an amazing recreation of the original art-deco building from the 1930's. Every single detail takes you back in time. Nick and Emily were down from London to get married here, and they brought with them all of their fun friends. Even though it wasn't a church wedding, they still enjoyed a sing-song during the ceremony which really lifted the mood of the day.

A big thank you must be said to the hotel staff and my assistant Jack for making the pontoon shot possible via the use of a dinghy. Yes it is real!

Adam & Meloney - St. Mellion

The last of our 3 weddings in succession at St. Mellion. No idea how that happened! Luck of the draw I guess, but odd even so. We're now on first name terms with everyone who works there!

Adam and Meloney are lovely, down to earth people. Their wedding was both emotional and fun. Adam's Mum is Scottish, so he donned the kilt to make her happy. Our new graphic art pieces are really taking off and wowing the wedding crowds wherever we go. So I suggested to Adam and Meloney that we could recreate the Braveheart movie poster for them. They loved the idea, so I went out shopping for swords and then spent two full days recreating the various incarnations of the iconic movie image until I was happy. We then photographed the couple on their day in the pose we'd developed for the shot. Everyone was blown away by the result. Slightly tongue in cheek, but very impressive.

Adam and Meloney are also big Bond fans. So we recreated this iconic image for them too!

Chris & Kelly - St. Mellion

Second of the three weddings out of four at St. Mellion, this one was particularly special to us. First of all, after a lengthy phone call with world famous wedding photographer, Gordon McGowan, I was convinced by him that my photos would look more fun if we didn't do a practice photo shoot before hand (as we'd always done), but ad-libbed it on the day instead. And this wedding was also the first to benefit from a new idea I'd had about creating fantastic graphical wedding photos that are totally off-the-wall and completely different. Not for all the photos of course, just one or two artistic set-pieces to add an extra dimension and set us apart from everyone else in the world. You'll be seeing a lot more of those in coming weeks! We're very interested to hear any ideas you have for this new style we're developing. The brief is simple - anything you can imagine, we can create. Think - movie posters, famous paintings, fables and stories etc. Answers on a postcard to alex@youlookgorgeous.co.uk!

This 'Adam & Eve In The Garden Of Eden' image is the first from our new style.

Gordon was right, the photos were definitely more fun this time!

We're constantly evolving our first dance shot.

Jude & Ben - Oldway Mansion, Torquay.

Jude and Ben are a brilliant fun couple who are clearly very much in love. It's always nice to work with couples like that. Jude said that she particularly wanted a pink light for her first dance photos, so after hunting high and low for just the right shade, we were happy to oblige.

Natalie & Paul - St. Mellion

The first of three visits to St. Mellion out of four weddings for us! Very odd, as we haven't been there for over a year. This wedding was lovely. Natalie and Paul actually met at St. Mellion while they were both working there a few years ago. I asked them where they thought the first time they actually met would have been, and they said it would have been in the kitchen. So we arranged with the chef to let us take them back in there to have a photograph to celebrate that fact! Probably a crazy photo for you at home, but a special memory for them...

James & Kelly - The Royal Western Yacht Club

"Alex and Jack were fantastic from start to finish. We very highly recommend You Look Gorgeous. The final prints were astounding and it was a real bonus that they provide the equipment and run a slideshow and 3D show at the reception. They provided so much more than your 'average Joe' photographer by also filming the ceremony and we had over 1000 photos, 3D photos, and Video on a couple of Dvds before the end/ middle of the evening reception. This suited us fine as we could upload these onto our iPhones to view on our honeymoon and not have to wait weeks/months to view our photos. The 'Engagement shoot' the week before the wedding was also very useful as every detail of the day was planned meticulously and various poses practised to ensure the smooth running of the day. We liked the way Alex was looking to shoot contemporary shots rather than the normal endless group photo- which has provided us with a great set of wedding photos. Thanks YLG for an excellent job."

Thank you for the lovely comments guys!

Jon & Karen - The Rembrandt Hotel

We met Jon and Karen at home when they were down in Plymouth for a friends wedding and popped round to see our lodger Alan. We got chatting and showed them some photos and they were instantly hooked! Karen was keen to book us straight away for their wedding. Karen was adamant that nobody had ever taken a nice photo of her and that she was obviously not photogenic. She was delighted when we proved her wrong!
